After hours of working on a puzzle, it feels deeply satisfying to put that last puzzle piece in its place. Now that your hard work is done, what will you do with your completed puzzle?
Displaying it in a puzzle frame is a great way to enjoy the result for longer and protect your hard work from damage.
At Portfolio Picture Framers, we offer high quality puzzle framing services at factory direct prices. Whatever size or style puzzle you have, we can help create the perfect frame to showcase your hard work.
Most puzzles can be framed using the following steps:
Before you start assembling your puzzle, it's a good idea to work on a stiff board or a "Puzzle Roll Up'' for easy transport later on. Puzzle Roll Ups are available for purchase at Big W and are the perfect storage solution for puzzles up to 2000 pieces. Examples of the Puzzle Roll Up can be viewed below.
We don't recommend gluing your puzzle as you go as this can lead to errors and warping of the puzzle. At this stage, focus on finishing the puzzle and enjoying the process.
You don't have to glue the puzzle before taking it to our framing studio. Simply bring the assembled puzzle on a board or the Puzzle Roll Up and we'll take it from there.
If your puzzle is larger than 1 metre by 1 metre, we recommend gluing the puzzle before you bring it in to avoid any mishaps.
If you do decide to glue the puzzle yourself, we recommend visiting your local arts and crafts store for advice on how to best glue your puzzle
Most puzzles will need to be mounted on an appropriate sized foam board. When you bring your puzzle into our framing studio, we will flip it over and secure it to an acid free foam core board to ensure every piece stays in place and to prevent any warping of the puzzle over time.
Finished puzzles should be treated like any other artwork when it comes to framing. Colours and materials of the frame itself can help enhance the overall appearance. You may want to consider using a matt board to help the image stand out.
If you need help choosing the perfect frame for your puzzle, the team at Portfolio Picture Framers can walk you through your options and suggest ways to best showcase your work.
Some puzzles can be framed using regular photo frames and traditional picture frames. However, it's important to consider the thickness of the puzzle and any backing before framing.
Another consideration is the size of the puzzle. Not all puzzles are made with traditional frame dimensions.
The best way to ensure you get a puzzle frame that fits perfectly is to get a custom jigsaw puzzle frame. Custom frames give you more control over the final look and better protection of your puzzle long term.
At Portfolio Picture Framers, our custom frames are made with art gallery standard techniques and high quality materials to ensure an eye-catching result every time.
If you want to start a puzzle project with the intention of framing it later on, it's worth thinking about the type of puzzle you choose. Completed puzzles are like any other wall art you would consider displaying in your home – it's important that you love the content and the colour palette.
Whether you're into serene landscapes, dreamy city scenes or modern still lifes, you can find puzzles of all styles to suit your preferences. Consider your existing home decor style and colours to make sure the puzzle will complement what's already there.
It's also worth thinking about size and where you plan on displaying the piece. Puzzles come in a wide range of sizes and dimensions. A good tip is to cut out a piece of paper the size of your finished puzzle and hold it against the wall to visualise if the size will work in that location.
Whether you're just starting your puzzle, or have finished the masterpiece and have questions about framing it, the team at Portfolio Picture Framers is here to help.
